Hi Three to Five Tribe! Recently, I shared with you a super easy recipe for homemade bone broth. Not only is bone broth an excellent way to warm up during the cold winter months, or any time of year for that matter, but it’s also packed full of health benefits like soothing, gut healing collagen. However, if bone broth isn’t your jam, but you still want to enjoy the benefits of collagen, there is a solution.
Vital Proteins Collagen
Although I think the best way to get in your daily dose of collagen is through real, whole food sources like bone broth, I am all for adding in a collagen supplement. My favorite collagen supplement is Vital Proteins. Although I enjoy both the bovine collagen and the marine collagen, I notice more results of collagen’s effectiveness when I consume the marine collagen and when I follow the recommended serving size of two scoops as opposed to my usual one.
What I enjoy most about the Vital Proteins collagen is that it’s unflavored. Okay well to be perfectly honest, the bovine collagen can taste a little hoof-ey at times if you don’t mix it well enough, especially in cold beverages, but let’s be real, it is made from bovine, so it would make sense. However, if you prefer a little bit of flavor that isn’t hoof-ey, Vital Proteins offers a variety of flavor options including dark chocolate blackberry, mixed berry and vanilla. Vital Proteins collagen can be enjoyed with pretty much anything: bone broth, coffee, pudding, smoothies, soups, tea, yogurt and even baked goods like cookies and muffins. I prefer one scoop of collagen in my morning mug of tea and one scoop in my afternoon cup of bone broth, but have also baked with it to create high protein peanut butter cookies and believe me, they were absolutely delicious.
