Hi Three to Five! If you know me, then you know I have a major sweet tooth. I always say, everybody and every body is different, which means everyone manages their sweet tooth differently. Whether you completely say no to sweets, slay the sugar dragon with a Whole30 or look for more mindful alternatives like a banana based dessert, chocolate avocado mousse or a homemade berry bowl topped with cocoa nibbs, you have to do what works best for you and your body. No matter what option works best for you to you, your sweet tooth will absolutely love this one treat that will satisfy any sweet treat cravings.
Cinnamon Stuffed Dates
- Medjool Dates, Pitted
- Nut Butter (I prefer to use cashew butter, but you can use any nut butter: Almond butter, peanut butter, sunflower seed butter – your choice!)
- Cinnamon (Optional)
- Cocoa Nibbs (Optional)
1.) Slice Medjool dates in half then slather with a spoonful of your favorite nut butter. For an added touch of sweetness, add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a couple of cocoa nibbs for a hint of chocolate.
You can honestly enjoy the dates with just the nut butter as that combination in and of itself is absolutely delicious and tastes like Mother’s Nature’s very own version of peanut butter and jelly, but adding additional ingredients like cinnamon and cocoa nibs just makes it more fun.
A Word on Sugar…
Although dates are extremely high in sugar (27 grams of sugar for one serving, which is 2-3 dates) dates are low on the glycemic scale. This is because dates are also high in fiber, which slows the effect of their sugar on your blood sugar levels, so when you pair it with a healthy fat, like nut butter, it slows down the absorption of the sugar even more. How cool is that?
