Why I Eat Whole30

OMO

Hi Three to Five Tribe! As many of you know, I am all about that Whole30 lifestyle. #iamwhole30 Last year, I completed a Whole90 and ever since then, my normal diet has shifted to real, whole foods for each and every meal. However, after the month of July, I have been reminded why I live a Whole30 lifestyle.

Why I Live a Whole30 Life

Like most people, my summer has been busy, especially the month of July. Think one wedding, the Fourth of July holiday, date nights out, one bachelorette party, a fancy family dinner, and a bridal shower…and a partridge in a pear tree. #kidding You get the idea! Needless to say, I was exposed to food/drink options I usually do not encounter on a daily basis: hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies, ice cream bars, champagne, wine, oh and bread, lots and lots of gluten filled, fluffy bread.

When all of the celebrating was said and done and the month of July had come to a close, I felt (and still feel) like absolute crap. As much as I hate this feeling, this is a good reminder for me why I live a Whole30 life and stay away from certain food groups. I was (rudely) reminded that…

  • Legumes (i.e. popcorn) – Make me super bloated. I seriously look like I am pregnant. #notpregnant
  • Non-Gluten Grains (i.e. corn tortilla chips) – Give me throbbing headaches.
  • Gluten Grains (i.e. bread basket, chips) – Make me break out.
  • Sugar (i.e. cookies, cake) – Cause inflammation. The only time old injuries flare up for me is after I have eaten sugar.
  • Dairy (i.e. cheese, ice cream) – Totally mess with my digestion aka I don’t go #2. #TMI

These symptoms reminded me why I politely pass on alcohol, say no to the bread basket at dinner, and turn down dessert like its nobody’s business. In the end, feeling good in my body is more important than having a glass of wine at dinner or eating that piece of cake, no matter how delicious it looks.

With that being said, I have decided to partake in a Whole30 for the month of August. If anyone is keeping up, this will be my fourth and final Whole30 for 2017. Don’t worry, it won’t be my final final Whole30, so you will all still get to hear all of my Whole30 soap box moments. #sorrynotsorry

  1. Hi Ashley!! I love getting your updates 🙂 Good luck with your Whole30, I know you’re going to rock it!

I’ve been following something similar, a new program with Beachbody called Shift Shop where you cut out sugar and grains and basically carb cycle for 3 weeks (plus ridonkulous workouts) and it’s been really fun and eye-opening. Not gonna lie, kind of sick of eggs for breakfast haha. If you have any other breakfast suggestions throw them at me!

How are things going with your biz? I’d love to catch up!!
