Hi Three to Five Tribe! Summer season means grilling season and that means lot of grilled food: grilled chicken, grilled burgers, grilled everything. Most of these delicious meals include buns, but today I want to offer you a healthy alternative.
Now don’t get me wrong, nothing beats a grilled burger on a freshly baked bun. Pretzel bun, potato bun, pick your poison. #passthepretzelbunplease However, if you want to keep things on the lighter side, grab a green bun, a lettuce bun!
It’s an easy substitute, but many people forget that lettuce leaves are more than just a an added touch of color to brighten up your burger. Yes, it’s true. Lettuce is more than just garnish.
If you are going to give the lettuce bun a go, make sure you shop for larger lettuce leaves. I recommend Green Leaf Lettuce or Butter Lettuce. #thebiggerthebetter Whatever lettuce you purchase, make sure you rinse the leaves in cool water and dry thoroughly before serving.
Even if you are hosting a backyard BBQ and pride yourself as the grill master (grilled bread buns included) remember your guests may prefer a lettuce bun, so grab an extra head of lettuce while you’re at the store. Believe me, guests will appreciate the additional option.
