A Sweet Treat Recipe

Hi Three to Five Tribe! Update: I have completed my fourth Whole30, my second for 2016, and I have yet to veer from eating real, whole food since I started back on July 10th. #day44 #goingstrong Although I have tamed the sugar dragon, I still have sweet tooth cravings every now and again, so I wanted to share the perfect recipe that is bound to satisfy most sweet tooth cravings!

A Sweet Treat

  • 1 Banana
  • Cinnamon
  • Almond Butter
  • Cocoa Nibbs

Take the banana and slice it into pieces. Then add a smear of almond butter on each slice. Add a dash of cinnamon and top it off with cocoa nibbs. Voila! Perfection.

Bananas. Bananas are a low calorie snack, roughly about 110 calories for one medium sized banana. They also aid in digestion and are high in potassium, which can help prevent muscle cramps after a workout. Did you know you can also use bananas in baking to substitute for butter or oils? #callmecrockerbettycrocker

Cinnamon. Cinnamon is a spice that adds a burst of flavor to the most basic of snacks. (Raw apple slices and a sprinkle of cinnamon anyone?) This spice has also been known to lower blood sugar levels.

Almond Butter. Almond butter is full of fiber and is a healthy fat. Remember: Healthy fat keeps you full and is used in your body as an energy source. #fatburnsfat Side note: Add  1-2 tablespoons of almond butter to a smoothie to add in a dose of healthy fat, but pay attention to serving sizes- nuts are high in calories. A little bit goes a long way!

Cocoa Nibbs. 
These little guys are a Mayan superfood full of magnesium, a micronutrient that increases energy levels, serotonin (why do you think chocolate makes you so happy?!), and calms nerves and anxiety. These can be hard to find in stores, but I have been able to find them in Whole Foods in the baking aisle. Be sure to read the label and make sure they are raw and avoid “sweetened cocoa nibbs,” which have added sugar. Side note for girls only: When you are going through your menstrual cycle, you lose magnesium, so cocoa nibbs are a good go to to satisfy that chocolate craving AND get in more magnesium. 

This sweet treat is a great go to for most sweet tooth cravings and I hope you will try it! Bonus: This is Whole30 approved. #smilesallaround
